Supplies for Adult Classes

Students in adult classes are responsible for bringing their own art supplies. Materials lists
are posted on our website or can be obtained by calling the Museum’s main number, 978-
345-4207.

1. DRAWING VIA THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAIN

Sundays, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Oct. 1 – Nov. 12 (6 weeks; No class Oct. 8)

Instructor: Carolyn Todd

Drawing doesn’t have to be difficult! This class will empower your inner artist by
encouraging the intuitive side of the brain to improve the power of “seeing” the
relationships of line, shape, tone, and space. All materials provided. $135M, $155NM Register here

2. INTERMEDIATE DRAWING

Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Sept. 30 – Nov. 18 (6 weeks; No class Oct. 7 and Nov. 11)

Instructor: Sahar Ghavimi

If you have already taken a beginning drawing class, continue honing your drawing
skills in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere. We’ll focus on composition,
perspective, and more complicated imagery. $90M, $110NM Register here

3. OIL PAINTING (ALL LEVELS)

Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Sept. 27 – Nov. 15 (8 weeks)

Instructor: Randy LeSage

Work from still life, sketches and/or personal photographs as you master oil painting
techniques. Using a layered approach, you’ll begin with underpainting, practice blending
and brushwork, and finish with surface treatments. $168M, $188NM Register here

4. ACRYLIC PAINTING (BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE)

Wednesdays, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Sept. 27 – Nov. 15 (8 weeks)

Instructor: Linda Malone

Begin or continue to learn how to mix colors, create depth, and depict light and shadow

Try It Out!

Ever wanted to try a technique, but didn’t want to invest a lot in art supplies? Now you can! The
instructor brings all of the materials, and the only thing you take home is your new creation, a
new skill, and a wonderful memory.

5. TRY IT OUT: WATERCOLOR!

Explore watercolor painting and learn about color, composition, brush techniques, and the
principles of Setting the stage, Simplicity, Spontaneity, Space, and Symmetry or Asymmetry.

6. TRY IT OUT: ENCAUSTIC PAINTING!

Saturdays, October 28 and November 4
12:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Instructor: Carolyn Todd

Encaustic painting combines beeswax, oil paint, and resin with heat to create a luminous,
often multi-layered effect. You’ll learn a bit about the history of this oldest type of paint,
how to use a heat source to build a base, texturing the surface, blending color, and

7. ART NIGHT OUT: ZENTANGLE

Friday, November 17, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Instructor: Nancy Fillip, Certified Zentangle instructor

Socialize with friends, have a glass of wine, and make art! The Zentangle Method
is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing
structured patterns. No artistic experience needed! Fee includes all materials,
one glass of wine or non-alcoholic beverage, and snacks. Additional wine is $3.00

Saturday, October 7, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Celebrate Latino Heritage Month and make portraits with People Watching portrait
artist Nayda Cuevas. Learn about important Latino figures, and create a portrait using
simple transferring and painting techniques. All materials provided. FREE, but please call to

Play a fun “I Spy” scavenger hunt in the Museum’s galleries, then create paintings,

Build, paint, and collage your own enchanted worlds with fantasy houses, bewitched

13. SCULPTURES YOU BUILD FOR AGES 9 - 12

Thursdays, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Sept. 28 - Nov. 2 (6 weeks)

Create cool, free-standing and hanging sculptures of your own design with natural
and manmade materials, and finish them with paint. Learn new techniques, understand

14. BROWNIE/GIRL SCOUT DAY PROGRAM FOR AGES 7 - 12

Papyrus to Portraits

Saturday, October 21, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Explore ancient Egyptian art as well as the art of traditional and contemporary
portraiture through interactive tours and hands-on art activities. See complete details

  2.  Call the Museum at 978-345-4207 during business hours Tuesday - Friday, and from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on weekends

  3.  Visit the Museum during open hours and register at the front desk  

  4. Use the registration form and mail it in to the Museum with payment

Please note: Payment is due upon registration. The Fitchburg Art Museum does not reduce the class fee if a student cannot attend all days of the class. Payments are not processed until the class has enough enrollments to run it.

Dropping Off/Picking Up Children For Class

Please use the Museum’s Elm Street entrance. From Main Street turn right onto Academy Street, then left onto Elm Street. Museum will be on your left; look for the big sign on the side of the building. Do not drop off children before the scheduled start time because instructors are unable to watch them until the class begins. Please pick children up promptly at the end of class.

Class Cancellations Due To Weather

Any classes cancelled due to inclement weather will be made up at the discretion of the instructor.

Class Confirmation

If you register on-line at FamilyID, you will automatically receive a confirmation via email. If you register by mail and wish to receive a confirmation, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and one will be mailed to you. Otherwise, confirmations are not sent.
